Jane has over 12 years experience advising on privacy, technology, intellectual property and commercial law.

Her expertise spans privacy, cyber security, commercial contracts, IT procurement, intellectual property, consumer law, and regulatory matters.

Having spent a significant period working in a senior in-house role within an operationally complex and highly regulated consumer facing organisation, Jane approaches her work with a commercial and collaborative approach. She has deep appreciation of the commercial and operational realities that her client’s face and strives to deliver legal advice that is practical and value enhancing.

Jane has worked with Australian and international clients across a number of sectors, including aviation, transport, state and federal government, information technology, financial services, e-commerce, and the arts.

Jane’s expertise includes advising on:

  • all aspects of privacy and cyber security matters, including compliance, privacy assessments and risk management, data breach readiness and response, and responding to complaints and regulator interactions;
  • commercial transactions and digital transformation projects, including procurement of information technology and outsourcing, data partnerships, emerging technology, and digital and consumer law risks; and
  • intellectual property protection, licensing, commercialisation and due diligence, including in connection with new consumer products and corporate transactions.

Experience

Arts organisation

Advising on and preparing various commercial contracts for a premier Queensland arts organisation, including the preparation of key template agreements for ongoing use.

Financial services

Providing privacy advice to a long-standing client operating in the financial services sector in connection with a key outsourcing arrangement.

Loyalty

Providing strategic advice on entering arrangements with various affiliate marketing networks to a major Australian loyalty program.

Government

Advising a government client in relation to the purchase of key intellectual property and related assets, including considering complex chain of title and due diligence queries.

Not for profit

Providing advice in relation to a key master services agreement for outsourced security and network operations services for a not-for-profit organisation.

Aviation

Prior to joining McCullough Robertson, Jane led the privacy team at a major Australian airline where she was responsible for maintaining and improving the group’s privacy management framework and managing its day-to-day privacy activities.
