Legal Practice Solutions

Practical innovation, built for real problems. Always.

At McCullough Robertson, we apply human-centred thinking, carefully selected technology, and over 100 years of legal expertise to solve problems that matter to our lawyers and clients.

Our approach to innovation

Our approach to innovation starts with the problem, not the technology and people always come first.  We lead with human-centred design as we know from experience that solutions only work when the people using them have shaped them.  We select technology that fits the task at hand – not the other way around – and we have access to leading market technologies fit for a range of purposes.

Innovation at McR is disciplined.  We take our obligations around data protection and security seriously, not as a compliance exercise, but as a core part of how we work.  Every technology we adopt is assessed against our risk and quality management framework before it touches client data. We maintain robust data governance practices across the matter lifecycle, and our approach to new and developing tools, including generative AI, is built around ensuring client information remains protected, confidential, and handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws and our professional obligations.

We are transparent with clients about the tools we use and how their data is managed and if you have specific data handling requirements, we work with you to meet them.

Technology that works – from proven tools to emerging capabilities

Not every problem needs a new tool. We draw on a broad range of technologies, selecting the right one for the job, whether that’s a well-established platform our teams know inside out, a carefully evaluated emerging capability, or an in-house custom-built application.

We plan and design for the long term.

Our solutions are built to work now but be flexible enough to evolve with the rapidly changing business and legal landscape.  From end-to-end digital conveyancing platforms and trademark management systems to AI-powered document automation, our track record spans projects that have delivered real, measurable outcomes for clients.

Our lawyers are at the heart of our work.  We use technology as an enabler where it delivers a clear benefit to clients, but our lawyers remain responsible for all legal services we deliver.  Technology use allows our teams to spend more time leveraging their legal expertise and human skills to guide clients on higher value matters such as strategy, analysis and complex problem-solving.

Our legal practice solutions

Generative AI technology

We’ve integrated generative AI tools into our legal practice solutions in a deliberate, governed way, focused on augmenting our lawyers’ work whilst maintaining strict human oversight and judgement.

We have access to a range of generative AI technologies, many of which are now embedded in our existing tools, to facilitate a range of tasks including drafting, summarisation, legal research and document review, extraction, and creation.

Our AI enabled automation initiatives earned us the 2025 Automation Innovator Award, and our ongoing involvement in sector wide AI governance reflects our commitment to getting this right for the long term.

Litigation, investigations and regulatory matters

eDiscovery

For complex litigation, investigations and regulatory matters involving high volumes of documents, we use established eDiscovery platforms including Relativity and Nuix to manage document review efficiently, accurately, and at scale. Our teams are experienced in deploying these tools in a way that reduces cost and time without compromising accuracy. We work closely with eDiscovery experts to ensure clients’ expectations are met.

We utilise generative AI to facilitate a range of litigation related legal tasks including chronology preparation, transcription support and legal research. However, AI outputs are always carefully reviewed by our lawyers to ensure accuracy is never compromised before the courts.

Corporate and commercial transactions

Data rooms, due diligence and verification

For document-heavy due diligence matters, we use market leading solutions to create and manage data rooms, streamline due diligence workflows and undertake faster, more consistent document reviews, issue identification, and reporting.
We use AI technology to assist with document and contract reviews, particularly for reviews against agreed positions or playbooks. This saves clients’ time and facilitates certainty and consistency in the approach to contract negotiations.

We use sophisticated technology to support IPO verification, helping our legal teams and clients manage the high levels of accuracy, accountability and evidence required in public market transactions.

High-volume repeatable transactions

Document and workflow automation

We have significant experience designing and implementing traditional, and AI powered, document automation and workflow solutions for routine legal work to reduce manual handling, minimise error, and give clients faster, more consistent outputs. From high-volume transactional work to bespoke client-facing platforms, we tailor our automation and workflow solutions, leveraging generative AI and using the right technology, to meet the specific requirements of our clients.

Client collaboration

Online portals and knowledge management

We build and maintain systems that give lawyers and clients real-time visibility over their matters and transactions allowing them to track progress, financial information and manage deadlines. In collaboration with clients, we have developed a range of online portals and tools to allow clients to access information about their matters and related documents. Our knowledge management platforms ensure that our institutional expertise, acquired over 100 years in practice, is captured, accessible, and applied appropriately across legal teams for the benefit of our clients.
