McCullough Robertson has successfully assisted AGL Energy in the acquisition of the Yadnarie solar and long-duration energy storage project in South Australia from Photon Energy.
The Yadnarie project is set to deploy RayGen’s cutting‑edge PV Ultra and Thermal Hydro technology, with an anticipated capacity of 150 MW solar, 90 MW thermal and 720 MWh (8‑hour) storage. The project continues AGL’s collaboration with RayGen and reflects the potential for integrating solar and long-duration storage to support reliable energy supply.
We acted as transaction counsel to AGL in a complex transaction featuring significant intellectual property considerations, alongside regulatory changes affecting the development approvals regime. Our Corporate Advisory and Digital & Intellectual Property teams collaborated closely to secure all rights and assets essential to the project, providing AGL with commercial, pragmatic solutions that de‑risked the acquisition and positioned the project for success.
The Yadnarie project is a significant step in advancing Australia’s transition to cleaner, more resilient energy infrastructure, and we are proud to have supported AGL in achieving this result.
